BIO

Director, producer and distributor of films, Izza Genini is known as “The Godmother of Moroccan Film”. An active campaigner for the cinema of Morocco, the Maghreb and Africa, she promotes this “southern cinema” across Europe by working directly with local distributors. She has also made several films of her own, which use the richness and diversity of the country’s music as a means to paint a portrait of Morocco. These musical journeys explore all sides of Moroccan cultural heritage: the Berbers, the Gnaouas, the Sufis, the Andalus, the Aïta of the Cheikhate and the songs of the Sephardic Jews.
